New Hamburg (Metro-North station)

The New Hamburg Metro-North Railroad station serves the residents of the Wappingers Falls, New York and the Town of Poughkeepsie, New York via the Hudson Line. Trains leave for New York City every hour on weekdays, and about every 25 minutes during rush hour. It is from Grand Central Terminal and travel time to Grand Central is approximately one hour, 36 minutes.
New Hamburg is notable as one of the few in the Metro-North system to have closed and reopened; the original New Hamburg station〔(New Hamburg NYC&HR Train Station and Tunnel (New Hamburg History; Page 2) )〕 was closed by the New York Central in 1962 and was reopened in 1981〔(William E. Sauro New Cars for Hudson Line Commuters (New York Times; October 18, 1981) )〕 after the MTA took over the line. Another notable fact about the station is that the distance between it and Poughkeepsie — — is the longest such distance between stations on the Hudson Line (on any Metro-North main line, in fact) and the third-longest systemwide.
The New Hamburg station bisects the hamlet's Main Street. Old photographs show a grade crossing used to exist here; since the line was doubletracked in 1928, however, getting from one end of Main Street to the other has required a detour via nearby Bridge Street. Another bridge further north on Reed Road is the only other crossing in the hamlet.
==Platform and track configuration==

This station has two high-level side platforms each six cars long. The western platform, adjacent to Track 2, is generally used by southbound trains. The eastern platform, adjacent to Track 1, is generally used by northbound trains. The Hudson Line has two tracks at this location.
